Abstract :
This paper proposes a Sintered Lamellar Soft Magnetic Composite Material (SL-SMC) which combines the shaping advantage of soft magnetic composite material (SMC) using iron particles with the excellent magnetic properties of laminated electrical steels wherein the particles are lamellar and partially insulated/sintered. In the paper, the manufacturing process for this new material and its physical attributes are described. The effects of the latter on its magnetic properties are also discussed. A comparison is made between two Clawpole Transverse-Flux Machines (TFM) with a hybrid stator using concentrators fabricated with SMC for one of them and a SL-SMC for the other, in order to determine the improvements that this new material can bring to this type of machine.
