Abstract :
Synchronization of multimedia services is a problem when two or more real-time applications are applied on an integrated local area network. A simple technique of synchronizing two kinds of real-time packets into a high-speed multimedia LAN is proposed and described in this paper. The basic structure of the multimedia LAN is a modified buffer-insertion ring network. Its transmission bandwidth is up to 512 Mbits/sec. A high-speed network interface which contains a special mechanism is attached onto this network. The special mechanism includes video controller, voice controller and an integrated interface unit which determine the transmission of video and voice packets. The system guarantees that a real-time packet´s transmission delay will fall into an acceptable range
