Abstract :
With the increasing demand for multivendor environments in Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) transmission networks, the demand for open systems management of SDH networks is now mandatory for many telecommunications service providers. This paper describes the experiences gained in the design and development of the SDH Management Network (SMN) Operation System (OS) which is the manager-end in the OSI Management Model. The object-oriented paradigm provided a natural platform for the implementation of the various managed object classes in the SDH network element information model. This also facilitated the design of the interface to the Common Management Interface Service Elements (CMISE) of the OSI protocol
