Abstract :
An IBP/Geo/1 queueing model with finite buffer space is one of the most promising solutions for an analytical model of different parts of an ATM network, due to its discrete arrival and departure process. In this study such a model has been investigated in terms of stationarity. The results show that the system has two alternating periods in which different performance measures are obtained. The probability that the system stays in the same state for a long time is very high. Due to this, the correlation between lost cells is extremely high. This knowledge is very important while modelling or analyzing such a system. Finally, an example is given of how this knowledge could be applied to error recovery schemes
