Abstract :
We think security applications will become an important field of activity for wearable computers in the near future. In this paper we present VECAS (virtually enhanced communication assistance system), which is intended to increase the safety of motor racing security staff for example in Formula One. The evaluation results may also be useful for military, police and other security applications. The novel concept improves safety through increasing the staff´s alertness, which is provided by reduction of avocation and stimulus variation in order to prevent the vigilance problem. We present a prototype used for concept evaluation and discuss the most important requirements for implementation in motor racing.
