Abstract :
IEEE 802.15.4 is designed for low power and low rate wireless sensor networks. In the beacon-enabled mode of IEEE 802.15.4, the transmission period consists of contention access period (CAP) and contention free period (CFP). CAP applies carrier-sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA-CA) for its contention mechanism. This paper proposes a delayed backoff algorithm (DBA) to solve contention problem. According to the simulation results, DBA performs better than those in IEEE 802.15.4 for the effective data goodput under the same power consumption.
