Abstract :
A static call access control scheme for a synchronous transfer mode (STM) multiplex system in a broadband network is investigated. The access resource, composed of N basic channels, is shared by narrowband (NB) calls that can be queued and wideband (WB) calls that can be blocked. NB and WB calls require 1 and m channels for 1/μ1 and 1/μ2 average holding times, respectively. The NB traffic has N1 channels reserved for it, but it is allowed to compete with WB calls for the remaining resource if the queue exceeds a threshold h. Two approaches, one based on the matrix geometric method and the other on moment generating functions, are used to analyze the system
