Research and Application on Information Retrieval Techniques

With the rapid development of XML and XQuery languages, XML is playing an increasingly important role in the exchange of a wide variety of data on the Web and elsewhere. It is widely used as storage formats of various resources. In order to implement an information retrieval process on the Internet, XQuery which is known as a language for querying XML even can be server-side scripts for dynamic web application. This paper proposes an approach based on XQuery for implementing web searching. It describes how to preserve the information in XML formats, and how to create XQuery application for performing web queries. By means of an actual example of on-line retrieval system, it describes and analyses the process that includes building XQuery application environment, implementing online searching and session tracking. As a result, the approach can efficiently store and search information on the Web.
