Abstract
Mobile nodes in some challenging network scenarios suffer from intermittent connectivity and frequent partitions e.g. battlefield and disaster recovery scenarios. Disruption Tolerant Network (DTN) technologies are designed to enable nodes in such environments to communicate with one another. In the past, we have designed ferry based scheme for interdomain routing. However, in some scenarios, it is not economical or infeasible to deploy ferries. Thus, in this paper, we present a gateway-based interdomain routing scheme for DTNs. Specifically, our scheme assumes that clusterhead is available in each ad-hoc domain and nodes forward interdomain traffic to gateway nodes which can reach foreign domains. Via simulations and prototyping efforts, we demonstrate that our scheme performs well when different groups partially overlap in their spatial location areas such that candidate nodes that can act as gateway nodes exist. Our prototype includes both intentional named message delivery feature and content-centric security features.
