Abstract :
With the rapid development and deployment of emerging Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), there appears an upsurge of interests in studying ICTs adoption and diffusion. As a result, a substantial amount of papers have been published in this area. This paper aims to provide a critical review of the current literature on ICTs adoption with identified gaps and suggestions for future research. Findings from literature reveal that although significant efforts have been made to study ICTs adoption and diffusion, the diversity of the research in terms of theory and methodology is very low. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and its extended models and deductive approach using survey based method have dominated the ICTs adoption studies for decades. It is argued by the authors that as the ICTs are constantly evolving and innovating, the adoption of the emerging ICTs is also a continuing process. Therefore, future adoption research should focus on understanding the adoption from a dynamic and evolutionary process perspective. An evolution-based model of ICTs adoption is discussed and proposed.
