Abstract
Average, dynamic models of rectifier converters are required to carry out stability and voltage regulation studies on systems based on multi-pulse rectifier fed motor-drive equipment systems. Existing methods of analysis are extremely complicated and difficult to apply to anything other than single converters with a low pulse number. This paper presents a simple, direct method for deriving the approximate, small-signal, average model of multi-pulse rectifiers. The method is based on the assumption of small overlap duration. The average, small-signal, dynamic model of a sample six-pulse rectifier is developed and validated against detailed simulation and laboratory measurements.
