Abstract :
In order to provide guidelines for a proposed soft-transition scheme that realizes zero-current and near-zero-voltage switching in high-power applications, this paper presents design considerations via a study example of a 50 kW three-phase prototype inverter for motor drives. Key aspects investigated are determination of the resonant tank parameters, design of the resonant inductor, and selection of the resonant capacitor. A simple device tester with zero-current-switching capability is proposed to select eligible auxiliary switches. Power stage layout and trade-off issues are addressed. The 50 kW prototype has been completely implemented and tested to the full power level, verifying the design methods
