Abstract :
For indoor navigation satellite aided positioning systems like GPS are neither available nor show an adequate performance. The local position measurement system LPM was designed to fill this gap, offering precise 3-D position information with high sample rates for a limited field of coverage, indoor as well as outdoor. In this contribution we summarize the main ideas behind this position estimation system and show the applied methods which are necessary to achieve a position accuracy of some centimeters. The superior performance of the LPM system is demonstrated in an indoor environment tracking cows whereby the cows are equipped with active transponders
