Abstract :
This paper presents a novel synchronous reference frame-based control strategy for series voltage and harmonic compensation when supplied to linear or nonlinear load. The series controller compensates source voltage variation and power factor very effectively. Moreover, it acts as a harmonic filter in the presence of source voltage harmonic distortion and harmonic generation due to nonlinear harmonic voltage source loads such as a diode rectifier with large smoothing capacitor. Simulation results are presented together with experimental results on a scaled down laboratory system to show the flexibility and effectiveness of the controller
