Abstract
Bellcore´s view of the advanced intelligent network (AIN) in 1993 is presented. The AIN functionality, architecture, and switch call processing are addressed. The functionality discussion includes a description of specific capabilities along with the motivation behind these capabilities. The architecture discussion briefly reviews the network elements and their interfaces needed to provide the above capabilities. Key aspects of the switch call processing needed to support the architecture are discussed
