Abstract :
A microcomputer-based parameter estimator for determining the distribution characteristics of a power system is discussed. The use of this parameter estimator is illustrated on an analog of a single-phase feeder. It is found that even in the presence of source harmonics and with a nonlinear load the system parameters can be determined to a high degree of accuracy. Such measurements can be used in the design of a fixed-components optimal compensator or permit the dynamic control of an online optimal compensator
