Abstract :
Delay selection has notoriously a dramatic impact on the equalizer performance. We prove that near-optimal performance can be obtained by choosing the delay to be equal or slightly larger than the channel memory. This results is proved in the general context of a multiple-input multiple-output finite impulse response channels. It constitutes a helpful design criterion that ensures practically optimal performance and whose simplicity contrasts with the huge computation required by optimal delay selection algorithms.
