Abstract :
This paper proposes a procedure to construct the complete reproduction of cultural artifacts in shape and color. For this purpose, we propose a practical shape modeling procedure that approximates a real 3D object, for instance, an impasted oil painting, with the matrix-formatted organized meshing. This enables high-density scanning for high-resolution reconstruction, accurate object color image mapping onto the reconstructed shape, and the successive 3D shape manipulation. This proposal of quadrilateral meshing allows an accurate transcription of the high-resolution digital camera image of the object onto this high-resolution modeled result, achieving practical and complete reproductions of fine arts and cultural artifacts, in color and surface ruggedness or impasto. It is a kind of colored 3D terrain reproduction and not the 2D color image reproduction, usually used for photographic duplication. This proposal realizes the complete reproduction of physical objects using the so-called rapid prototyping combined with the ink-jet color printing technique
