Abstract :
In this paper, the input impedance, the radiation patterns and the radiation efficiency of a printed dipole very close to a lossy EBG are analyzed. The printed horizontal dipole is only lambda /100 above the EBG structure. As a comparison, the horizontal dipole antennas above PEC, PMC, and FR4 dielectric are also analyzed. It is shown that when the altitude of the antenna is very low, the radiation of the antenna over the EBG is like that of the antenna over PEC, but not PMC.
