Abstract
The determination of quantitative morphometric measures that describe the performance of the components of microvascular systems is discussed. A software package is being developed for object detection, segmentation, feature description, and classification of these components. In addition, algorithms are being developed to measure the physical dimensions and responses of these microscopic objects. Tests of the package and techniques are made on samples of images stored on video tapes using closed-circuit-television microscopy of the small blood vessels in the rat cremaster muscle. Samples comprise diseased and nondiseased microcirculation systems
