Abstract :
Ways are examined for incorporating VHSIC/VLSIC technological advances into design planning, and steps are discussed that have been taken to ensure that further developments can be transferred to electronic design as they become available. The authors present a methodology for developing technology and vendor-independent digital designs using workstation CAD/CAE tools. A methodology termed generic digital design is presented for design evaluation and the rapid insertion of VHSIC/VLSIC technology. A library of standardized functions and their associated symbols. called the Generic Logic Library, is also presented. A 12 K VHSIC `LIKE´ gate array design implementing a flight control electronics function for advanced missiles was completed to demonstrate the proposed methodology
