Abstract
Operation of the active line shaping single phase rectifier with the switching instances pre-calculated is presented. The required input current at unit power factor to feed the dc load is set. The Switching Function Technique is applied to derive the necessary modulation function of the dc side switch. The analysis leads to the calculation of the parameters of the modulation function and the switching instances of the dc side switch. An analytical equation of the line current is also derived. Optimisation is then possible in order to achieve the minimum switching losses by minimising the switching instances for the best quality of input line current. The results are supported by PSPICE simulations.
