Abstract :
Earth location errors affect both the utility of single measurements in absolute terms and the ability to compare measurements of the same point made at distinct times. The paper describes the anticipated Earth location errors of MODIS pixel data resulting from errors in knowledge of the Earth Observing System (EOS) platform attitude and location in space, MODIS instrument pointing direction, and Earth terrain height. The ground processing approach is briefly described. The scientific requirement to correctly Earth locate MODIS data within 0.1 pixels appears feasible. Limitations of this analysis are discussed
