Abstract :
With the advent of the Global Positioning System (GPS), it has been necessary to select a calculus for determining what a good selected satellite geometry is and what constitutes a poor choice. The most popular metric today is a dimensionless single number termed the Geometric Dilution of Precision (GDOP). Since high accuracy in a positioning system requires both accurate measurement of the range and a good geometric relationship between the mobile device and the measuring points, the calculation of GDOP is an essential feature in determining the performance of a positioning system. In this paper, a new approach is presented for calculation of GDOP using adaptive filtering technique based on Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs). EAs such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Simulated Annealing (SA), and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) are algorithms for optimization and learning based loosely on several features of biological evolution. Method validity is verified with test data. The results are a highly effective technique for GDOP calculation.
