Abstract
The author examines the historical lessons learned from the use of the product manufacturing approach to information systems development and describes an alternative methodology based on a natural growth model. The Analytic Science Corporation´s (TASC´s) Effective Development through Growth and Evolution (TASC-EDGE) methodology is described as a development process which is centered around responding to the users environment and changing requirements. The problems of requirements analysis, software project management, and commercial hardware and software integration within the evolutionary acquisition process are discussed
