  • Abstract
As the use of very-high-speed integrated circuits (VHSICs) technology has become more widely accepted in US Air Force Logistics Command (AFLC), there is interest in identifying ground and airborne electronic systems already fielded which could benefit by VHSIC insertion. The background of the AFLC VHSIC program is described from its conception in the US Department of Defense to the 1988 status. AFLC programs are discussed as they relate to the VHSIC program. Additionally, several candidate systems, which have been identified with the potential for VHSIC insertion, are highlighted. The impediments AFLC faces in inserting VHSIC technology quickly and effectively in fielded weapon systems are considered. Supportability issues such as repair, testing, and reprocurement are identified as potential problems for AFLC
