            Abstract :
A means of indexing the state of knowledge in the use of photovoltaic (PV) technologies for utility applications has been developed. It was organized around the thesis that generic “situations” can be defined that will help utilities to obtain and interpret the results from past and current PV projects, and to plan for future projects. To date, both “major” applications and smaller (sometimes termed “cost-effective” or “early”) applications have been defined and placed into the situation matrix format. The goal is to provide a tool to US utilities and other organizations that will allow them to determine existing sources of information about specific PV applications and to track incoming results from the large number of envisioned new PV demonstration projects
