Abstract :
The intelligent underlay-overlay, or IUO, technique is applied to a radio network in order to increase the capacity. Along with the new technique, the methods of modelling IUO TRX configurations need to be brought forward. This paper proposes a solution for modelling IUO TRX configurations with the help of the capacity planning tool of NPS/X or Network Planning System based on Unix. The method for modelling IUO TRX configurations is composed of requirement analysis, performance analysis and the IUO TRX configuration presentation, analysis and adjustment. The modelling steps in the IUO are similar to those in a single layer network, but each step contains new operations. The paper covers a wide range of areas: the capacity planning process, the IUO network concept, the object model, reasoning techniques used for predictions and the capacity planning tool. By comparing the results measured from an existing IUO network with the data of modelling IUO TRX configurations, it has been shown that the predictions are accurate for practical application. It is pointed out that not only are the modelling techniques of practical value, but the principles are also valuable for theoretical research
