Abstract :
Future public land mobile communication systems are expected to be characterized by digital transmission of both voice and data services, flexibility, portable outdoor and indoor applications, and high user penetration. The viability of packet-radio access techniques for public land mobile systems is discussed. An analysis is developed which compares the efficiency of packet radio techniques with the efficiency of TDMA (time-division multiple access). It is shown that the efficiency of packet radio depends on the proportion of data and voice users and the access technique used
