Abstract
The hand-off from seeking tracking in hard disk drives can be made more quickly if the average bias current necessary to maintain tracking is known a priori. It has been observed that there are several variables which influence bias including the history of seeks made by the drive. This paper discusses the variables affecting bias, experimentally investigates the effects of seek history, and suggests improved algorithms for bias prediction
