C/A-code dual frequency surveying receiver-architecture and performance

A C/A-code-only receiver (Model 4000SD) is described in which L2 (1227MHz) acquisition and tracking is possible through use of the L1 (1575MHz) code-correlating channels. The architecture and advantages of this approach are discussed. A production version of this receiver containing ten parallel channels (five L1 and five L2, or ten L1 only) was used to obtain results for short and long baselines. Comparisons are made between baseline results obtained by postprocessing L1 data only, L2 data only, and combined L1/L2 data. The 4000SD receiver was shown to be capable of making high-accuracy L2 carrier phase measurements by comparison of L1-only and L2-only postprocessing solutions for a 6-km baseline
