Abstract :
The application of mid-infrared spectroscopy to whole, unheparinized blood is discussed. The observed spectra are characteristic and reproducible. Furthermore, a direct correlation was observed between blood cholesterol levels and absorbance curves. Research is underway to precisely determine the cause and theory behind this effect. Near-IR, however, was found to be of no significance in single beam transmission studies
