  • Abstract
This paper compares the performance of two adaptive equalisation algorithms, namely the recursive least-squares decision feedback lattice (RLS DFE lattice) and the data directed estimator (DDE) algorithm. The two algorithms represent two different approaches to the channel equalisation problem, as the RLS DFE lattice is based on a recursive algorithm, and the DDE is a block processing algorithm. This paper compares the performance of the two algorithms in a fading HF channel in a typical QPSK communication system. The bit error rates (BER) and the computational complexity of the algorithms are compared to evaluate their effectiveness
