Abstract :
With magnetic components probably being the most critical components in power electronics devices, it would be good to have a simulation tool able to model the high-frequency effects that are sometimes responsible for an efficiency variation of several points. This paper presents a design tool (UO-M2T) that offers such a capability without the need of using finite-element analysis tools. The tool allows magnetic component designers to know the behaviour of the elements they devise even before winding them. By defining the exact winding disposition in the core chosen, designers can visualize the transformer or inductor response when an AC sweep is carried out. This will allow them to carry out short-circuit and open circuit tests before winding the transformer
