Abstract :
An algorithm is proposed to determine, pixel per pixel, the bare soil NDVI value using coarse resolution NOAA/AVHRR red and near infrared data. This process is based on the soil line concept. Results obtained over Spain show that this method provide a useful tool to map the land use at coarse spatial resolution. Further, this method could be applied to improve the accuracy of the APAR estimates from NDVI data through minimisation of the soil background effect
