Abstract :
The Joint Advanced Strike Technology (JAST) program is applying the IEEE Standard 1596 Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI) to next-generation avionic systems. Avionic architects can apply SCI in a number of ways. Previous work examined a solution appropriate for a new avionic suite: a unified data network providing virtually all network functions. This paper addresses another important application area: upgrades suitable for PAVE PILLAR derived architectures. Potential incremental upgrades are discussed, with emphasis on the switch characteristics, and the requirements implied by the application
