Abstract :
Material plays an important role in product design and affects consumers´ preference in purchase. To study the user´s material perception, a novel approach of the semantic differential (SD) method was adopted. Taken the cup with different material as an example, the characteristics of users´ material perception were concluded, such as transparent, reflexivity, texture, and then the weightiness of material perception was discussed. The study of the users´ material perception of product will assist the designers in material design of product, and find out the material attributes and meaning for material design of product.
