  • Abstract
    The efficiency, cost, and truthfulness are essentially about the exhibition of product design (PD) as well as in a rapidly changing and keenly competitive environment. The work presented in this paper focuses on presenting a new kind of product exhibiting method of PD, which introduced virtual reality (VR) into the course of exhibition of PD. In this paper, we bring up the structure model of the virtual exhibition room of product design (VRER) based on multimedia technology, and aim at expounding the method and process by which we construct the system. With the constant development of the multimedia technology, especially the network technology, we have more and more abundant exhibition means of PD. The virtual exhibition room of PD regarded as a new multimedia technology is one of the results. The VRER integrating with the sense of sight, hearing, and the tactile sense, can offer impression and experience equated with the true environment. Furthermore, the characteristics of VRER, such as small file amount, easy transmitting, lifelike, interaction, and so on, make the product design exhibition swifter and more effective. The VRER not only increases the efficiency of the PD exhibition, but also cuts down the cost of the exhibition. Finally, a design of VRER for special type truck is employed to demonstrate the above viewpoints.
