Abstract :
This paper explores knowledge formation and knowledge management for urban construction in the context of sustainable development. The primary goal of this research is to propose an approach to helping achieve the harmony and the sustainability of urban construction and development, by the research of knowledge management based on symbiosis. As the theoretical basis of this paper, the previous related studies of symbiosis and knowledge management are reviewed. In this paper, the relationship between urban construction and symbiosis is studied, and it is found that the introduction of symbiosis to urban construction can conduce to the harmonious and sustainable development of the cities. The analysis of harmonious symbiosis between urban construction project and the environment shows the complexity of symbiotic city and the necessity of knowledge management at the city level for urban construction, thus a knowledge management system for urban construction is set up, and then the elements of the system are considered using symbiosis. The Shanghai Expo Park is taken as an example of symbiotic urban renewal project, the successful knowledge management experience of its construction is discussed, and several suggestions of knowledge management for urban construction are provided according to the case study.
