Abstract
A new design method which includes sub-model technology, 3D contact analysis of finite element, and non-free boundary meshing method is put forward to perform the static strength analysis of complex mechanical structures. A crankshaft of a high power diesel engine is introduced as a design example and its strength safety factors are checked. Analysis results are in line with the actual operation of crankshaft, which states that the new design method developed in this paper is correct and effective. This design method lays the foundation for the further research on the dynamic simulation of complex mechanical structures.
