Abstract :
This paper presents a new 3-dB coplanar waveguide coupled-line directional coupler with a conductor-backed ground plane and its application in tunable analog phase shifting. In this research, the 3-dB coupled-line directional coupler and phase shifter were optimally designed and built on a microwave substrate. The proposed directional coupler showed promising results and the phase shifter circuit exhibited capabilities of fine phase tuning from 88° to 93° with reverse biases from 0 to 10 V at the operating frequency of ~8 GHz, low insertion loss of ⩽5 dB, and large bandwith of ~2 GHz
