Abstract
A concept of an underground object imaging system is proposed and an experimental system based on the concept is described. Basic concept is to combine a special signal gathering system with a digital signal processing system for flexible and effective signal handling to reconstruct high resolution images. A wideband, wide beam-angle radar mounted on a carrier was used as a sensor in the signal gathering system. The signal processing system performs high resolution holographic image reconstruction, velocity estimation, signal enhancement, and noise and clutter reduction. Outline of the portable signal gathering and processing systems are presented. Image reconstruction principle is briefly explained. Results of object imaging experiments show good potential of the system. Influence of underground environment on an image is also discussed.
