Abstract
The talk will explore the potential and the challenges associated with the integration of renewable sources of energy within the built environment. It will provide a balanced assessment these potentially low carbon sources of generation. Wind and photovoltaics, together with biomass and ground source heat pumps will be reviewed with an emphasis on domestic application. The impact of high penetrations of such generators will also be presented, in the context of the local electricity distribution system. The longer term prospects and the role of R&D will discussed.
