Abstract :
Inverter air-conditioning system equip with adjustable-speed outdoor fan as additional input control to maximize efficiency and energy saving. The adjustable-speed outdoor fan implements Brushless DC motor (BLDC) with sinusoidal drive. However, the BLDC motor is high voltage rated to efficiently operate with sinusoidal drive can cause to high switching losses. To enhance the efficiency and energy saving of air-conditioner, this paper introduces outdoor fan system incorporating with low voltage BLDC motor and trapezoidal drive. The trapezoidal drive method implements closed speed, current and position control loop to generate unipolar pulse width modulation (PWM) switching for voltage source inverter. The adjustable-speed outdoor fan system is designed based on temperature control mode. In this mode, the control system monitors a real-time ambient temperature and correspondingly changes the outdoor fan speed and providing efficient heat dissipation. Through the practical operation, the low voltage BLDC fan with trapezoidal drive shows its stability and optimum energy saving compared to conventional outdoor fan system.
