Abstract
Several algebraic propositions from the theory of reciprocal equations are conceived in this contribution. Applying them to the z-domain system functions of discrete-time FIR filters with the symmetric and antisymmetric impulse responses yields basic conditions and rules that have to be fulfilled to reach in principle the linear phase of filters with prescribed amplitude frequency responses.
