Abstract :
A CMOS impulse generating system was designed and simulated to generate the 5th derivative of Gaussian pulse intended for use in an impulse-type ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) wireless communication system. By using the designed finite impulse response (FIR) impulse shaping filter, the system transforms an approximate Gaussian pulse signal obtained from an existing CMOS pulse generator [4] into its 5th derivative. The final output waveform closely matches the 5th derivative of Gaussian pulse, and also satisfies the spectral mask emission requirements specified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The impulse shaping filter within the system is a 15-tap, 30-ps-delay (FIR) filter which can easily be implemented in CMOS by employing commonly used system blocks, such as delay circuits and amplifiers.
