Abstract :
In this work a dedicated pipeline for real time image compression, aimed at document archiving purposes, is described. Page segmentation is performed prior to compression in order to apply different compression methods to picture and text areas, considerably increasing the overall compression ratio. Page analysis and compression algorithms, suitable for implementation on reconfigurable hardware systems, are described
