Abstract
The Japanese Research Institute for Ocean Economics (RIOE) is researching whale tracking systems using “the state of art” which is “kind” to living bodies in cooperation with the Japanese Fisheries Agency. Attention is focused on the blue whale. The vital pivot technology is the battery life for the radiotransmitter. Instead of a battery, the authors are trying to apply an automatic power generation system which was recently developed by a wrist watch manufacturer. It will be put into a probe, a kind of towing fish, and will generate power due to the oscillatory motions induced by towing. The second key technology is how to attach this probe on the skin of the whale
