Abstract :
Line Element Chain Coding (LECC) method, which orients two-dimensional structure descriptive coding, for two-level pictures is proposed. This method encodes direction, coordinate, length, width, and shape of segment. Shape is encoded by nine types of line element chain codes. Compression rate for CCITT´s test charts, vector representation coding and progressive picture coding as application of this method are described.
