Abstract :
An FDM/TDM (frequency-division multiplexed/time-division multiplexed) transmultiplexer may be implemented as a periodically time-varying (PTV) infinite-impulse response (IIR) filter. It is argued that the IIR filter should provide higher efficiency in terms of the number of multiplications required than the FIR (finite-impulse response) filter bank structure typically used for the FDM/TDM transmultiplexer. An attempt is made to apply adaptive filter theory to solve this design problem. Using this approach, it has become possible to design transmultiplexer systems with up to 12 channels, which is more than by previous numerical methods
